Feeding life in a big and multicultural city – Centro Francescano Maria della Passione – Milano

For more than one hundred years the fmm community in Milan has been at the service of people in need.
The services that have been offered over time, and are still in operation, are the cloakroom, showers, listening centre and canteen.
Over the years, the physiognomy of the patrons of our services has changed in accordance with the migratory movements that were differentiating with the policies of European Countries.
In spite of this, the ultimate aim of our services is to listen and respond to the needs of those who arrive in our city and those living on the streets with addictions, social and economic difficulties.
The social activity involved in the Centro Francescano Maria della Passione is part of the social and religious network dealing with severe marginalisation.
The intercultural fraternity that lives in Milan today is fully engaged, each sister with its own assignment, from management to training and multiple activities of the Franciscan Centre Mary of the Passion.
In the big city of Milan, our service works in network with those of the City Hall and of the Church with the sole aim of responding to the needs of the most vulnerable.
The food that is prepared at the canteen comes from donations from benefactors, and from “food banks”; the clothes distributed weekly at the cloakroom are donated by private individuals or collected by the big firm group and other centre; the listening centre works in a network with the Milan municipal services.
All the services offered are guaranteed by the constant and faithful presence of more than 200 volunteers, who take turns in the various roles, while the kitchen is entrusted to a company with employees who take care of meal preparation.
All types of poverty that come knocking at our door become an opportunity to share with all our brothers and sisters the love of Christ that we have received and wish to share with open arms, because we recognise ourselves in this family in which we are “Fratelli tutti”.
