FAMILY

The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM) consist of approximately 5000 sisters from 77 nationalities, dedicated to universal mission, following in the footsteps of Saint Francis of Assisi. They travel the roads of 71 countries across the five continents.

SPIRIT

Their charism, entrusted to them by God through Mary of the Passion, commits them to following Christ. This charism is lived out in the fundamental attitude of the “Ecce” and “Fiat” of Mary. This is the foundational inspiration, the heart and the center of the charism that manifests in their lives through:

  • Eucharistic adoration: Mary of the Passion, their foundress, places the Eucharist at the core of their missionary commitment. It is the very essence of their life, their offering: to be a life given and surrendered; a Eucharist: an act of gratitude.
  • Universal mission: concretely expressed in the universality of the sending.
  • Offering of self:  total availability in offering, following the example of Mary.  This offering is lived out like Christ’s, in surrender to the will of God and His action within us.
  • The Franciscan way is the soil where simplicity, minority and the joy of self-giving flourish.

MISSION

  • The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary dedicate themselves to universal mission, a mission without borders, open to the world, regardless of country, culture, religion or social background. This commitment involves a genuine availability throughout their lives, lived in a spirit of service and respect for others.
  • The FMM are particularly present among the poorest and most abandoned, where Christ is not known, in places where today’s history has sown pain and death, hunger and injustice. They strive alongside other women and men to restore dignity and hope.
  • The FMM live in international communities, sharing fraternal joy and endeavoring to be instruments of peace and reconciliation.  As witnesses of hope, they proclaim through their lives and words the Good News of Salvation.
  • In their chapels, Christ is present in the Eucharist, contemplated and adored. Daily adoration is the primary form of mission, and it is where they draw strength to live out their vocation of offering.
  • The FMM strive together to embody, within the Church, the Gospel message in various cultures, embracing their values and complementarity.

2nd Sunday of Lent
Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain. There in their presence he was transfigured. And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and there came a voice from the cloud, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him.’
