On May 8, 2025, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected the 267th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, taking the name Leo XIV. His election marks a new moment of hope for the People of God—and a continuation of a legacy.
Pope Leo XIII, elected in 1878, was a bold voice for the poor and a pioneer of Catholic social teaching. His vision inspired many, including Blessed Mary of the Passion, foundress of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. Profoundly affirmed by his teachings, she led the young Institute to serve the Church’s universal mission.
Today, under Pope Leo XIV, her legacy lives on. In 2027, the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary will celebrate 150 years of mission and service.
From Leo XIII to Leo XIV, from Mary of the Passion to the Sisters she inspired—the mission continues.
“This is the hour for love. Together, let us build a new world where peace truly reigns.” – Pope Leo XIV
